New Omega building by Shigeru Ban

The Swiss Watch Industry is booming since the start of the 2000 years. This led many watch companies to further investments in infrastructure. Same goes for the Omega brand, right after Rolex, it is the second biggest watch brand of the world. Their new futuristic production building has now been inaugurated in Biel.

The new factory includes all assembly and checking processes of the watch brand under one roof. Newly, the building features a full-automatic storage system with about 30,000 boxes of watch components. To reduce the fire hazard, even the oxygen content within the hall has been reduced.

The Japanese Shigeru Ban is the architect of the about 70 meter long, 30 meter wide and 30 meter high building. He has designed many different buildings within Switzerland, like the new domicile of the Omega-parent company the Swatch Group. Bans' design tend to include lots of wood, like the new watch factory which is mainly build from Swiss spruce wood and concrete.
